The Volkswagen Amarok has retained its position at the top of its class, having retained its Best Pick-up Truck title at the 2020 What Car? Awards.
The vehicle once again won over the hearts and minds of the judging panel with its unique blend of on and off-road abilities and all-round quality.
Commenting on the result, What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford said: “Just because a pick-up truck is expected to lead a hard-working life, that doesn't mean quality in other areas must be compromised, and the Amarok presents the most compelling all-round package in the class. In fact, the Amarok even gives conventional SUVs a run for their money.”
The winning model was the entry-level variant, the Amarok Trendline 3.0-litre TDI V6 4MOTION. In addition to the 204 PS engine, a 258 PS is also available in Highline trim. And in October 2019, new Black Edition and Aventura Black Edition models were launched with extra equipment and styling features.
“I was delighted to collect the inaugural What Car? pick-up award for the Amarok last year, and it’s great to retain the title,” Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Carl zu Dohna, said.“Amarok sales in the UK increased in 2019, showing our versatile 4x4 is still popular with buyers looking for a workhorse that also has good on-road manners; and I’m grateful to the expert judges at What Car? for recognising its abilities and appeal.”
