If you listen very carefully, really strain your ears, you’ll hear a faint creaking sound, followed by panicked phone calls to cabinet makers, structural engineers and architects, for the Jaguar trophy room is positively straining under the weight of being so successful.
The Jaguar I-PACE has received 66 global awards since its introduction to the world, these include some mightily prestigious awards: 2019 World Car of the Year, World Car Design of the Year, World Green Car, European Car of the Year, German, Norwegian and UK Car of the Year, and most recently, Best Electric Powertrain, Best New Engine and the 350 to 450PS category award. Quite literally, GOSH.
The latest three awards are particularly impressive when you consider that they’re all about powertrain and technology, which means they’ve had to go up against stiff competition from virtually every EV manufacturer out there.
70 expert motoring journalists, from 32 different countries, all came together at the Engine Expo + The Powertrain Technology Show in Stuttgart to give their views on such metrics as performance, refinement, driveability and energy efficiency, and they felt that the Jaguar I-PACE delivered on all counts.
Ian Hoban, Powertrain Director at JLR says: “We’ve used all the benefits of state-of-the-art battery and motor technology to create a world-class electric vehicle. As well as zero emissions, the all-electric powertrain delivers an ideal balance of performance, refinement and range, together with outstanding responsiveness, agility and day-to-day usability.”
“I-PACE is a true driver’s car, and above all a true Jaguar. We set out to make the world’s best all-electric performance SUV: these awards reflect that, and are fitting recognition for what the engineering team has achieved.”
It’s all very well being told that the world loves the I-PACE, that journalists, consumers and influential motoring experts think that it’s better than other offerings of electric vehicles, but that doesn’t really tell you what it’s like to drive, or how many miles you’ll get to a charge, or whether it will work for you and your need.
The I-PACE has a state-of-the-art electrification system, a 90kWh Lithium-ion battery will give you a range of just under 300 miles in optimum conditions, it can be charged from 0% right up to 80% in just 40 minutes, and power output is the equivalent of 400PS in fossil-fuel terms, and 696Nm of torque. All of that equates to a 0-60mph time of just 4.5 seconds.
Inside the I-PACE, you’ll find all the usual Jaguar refinery, quality materials and the familiarity of a regular Jaguar, but just brought up to date. Try not to think of this as an electric vehicle with a Jaguar badge pinned on, think of it as a Jaguar that just happens to use the very latest in technology to provide power and luxury.
As to whether it will work for your need? Why not come and find out? Our professional team will gladly answer any questions that you may have, and even help steer you to official sites so that you can see what government help is available for electric vehicles, including subsidies for fitting a charging point at home.
