As a celebration of the Diamond anniversary of the legend that was the E-Type, Jaguar are releasing a special edition of the F-TYPE, called the Heritage 60 Edition.
When the E-type was launched in 1961, it was to massive acclaim, even pushing Enzo Ferrari to call it “the most beautiful car ever made”. It wasn’t just beautiful either – a claimed top speed of 150mph meant that it had performance in hand, and some even claim (it’s an urban legend now) that the E-Type was responsible for the M1 motorway having speed limits put in place, after Jaguar tested the top speed on a stretch of the motorway (there was no speed limit in place at the time).
Today, the E-Type remains revered amongst petrolheads, and Jaguar Land Rover wanted to celebrate that fact.
Based on the Jaguar F-TYPE R, which was released in December 2019, the Heritage 60 Edition promises to be something special, and Jaguar have given great thought as to what a modern-day interpretation of the E-Type would offer, right down to the Sherwood Green paintjob, which hasn’t been offered by Jaguar since the 1960s.
“The F-TYPE Heritage 60 Edition is a fantastic example of what the SV Bespoke team is capable of. Marrying E-type inspired detailing with new F-TYPE gave us an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the heritage of Jaguar’s legendary sports cars. With unrivalled access to original drawings, paint codes and reference materials, working hand-in-hand with our colleagues at Jaguar Classic, we’ve created a distinctive and highly collectible interpretation of the definitive Jaguar sports car.”
Clare Hansen – Director of Vehicle Personalisation, Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations
Just 60 of these special vehicles will be available worldwide, either in Convertible or Coupé form, each will feature a bespoke commissioning plaque which is tied to the E-Type 60 badging from the limited-edition E-Type 60 collection, and the whole ‘specialness’ doesn’t stop there.
With a 575PS (and 700Nm of torque) supercharged V8 fitted, the F-TYPE R Heritage 60 Edition continues the tradition of adding more brawn than you need – top speed is electronically limited to 186mph, and 0 – 60mph happens in just 3.5 seconds (less time than it takes to say it!).
Along with enough power to ‘make progress’, Jaguar have fine-tuned the suspension specifically for the Heritage 60 – making revisions to the dampers, anti-roll bars and rear suspension components, all with one thing in mind: better driver engagement.
While there’s no significant changes to the style of the F-TYPE, Jaguar have drawn inspiration from the E-Type for the interior, adding touches such as the E-Type inspired console finisher, using the duo-tone Caraway and Ebony Windsor leather, and a number of Gloss Black and Chrome accents throughout the car.
There’s also the one-off, Diamond Turned 20-inch Gloss Black forged alloy wheels to give the Heritage 60 the finished look. It’s the smaller details that turn the run-of-the-mill F-TYPE R (can it really be called run-of-the-mill?) in to something that’s truly special, and very limited.
“Celebrating 60 years of the iconic Jaguar E-type is the perfect moment to create our first-ever SV Bespoke limited edition – and the rarest F-TYPE, with just 60 cars available globally. We’ve worked closely with Jaguar Design to develop a theme for the F-TYPE Heritage 60 Edition that pays homage to the E-type in a contemporary way. It’s testament to Jaguar’s sports car design lineage that the 1960s Sherwood Green colour looks as though it was designed for today’s F-TYPE.”
