The government announced in the 2015 budget, fees for the first year of a vehicles registration will be based on its CO2 emissions. Most NEW vehicles will now move to a standard annual rate of £140 from April 1st 2017.
Many NEW cars with a list price under £40,000 will not escape an increase in yearly charges as currently if their CO2 emissions are below 120 grms the yearly tax is £30 or less.This will increase to £140 per year from April 2017.
Vehicles with a list price over £40,000 at first registration after APRIL 1 2017, will be subject to an additional levy of £310 per year for five years after the end of the first licence. The total fee will be £450 per year including the £140 standard Road Tax VED charge.
