The inaugural Helston Garages Cup football match

Sunday afternoon saw the inaugural Helston Garages Cup football match between Helston Garages Volkswagen and Carrs Volkswagen Indian Queens. The match was held at Wendron Football Club, who also helped out with kits, a referee and post-match buffet.

IQ took an early lead through a Joel Dyer penalty, which was soon cancelled out by a Drew Stewart equaliser for Helston. Shaun Smith then scored with a spectacular free kick to give Helston a 2-1 lead at half time.

George Shapcott equalised for IQ at the start of the second half, but the lead was soon restored with a Nick Perry goal for Helston. Kevin Nicholas then cemented the win for Helston with a fourth goal. Final score was 4-2 to Helston.

The trophy was presented to the winning captain Nick Perry by franchise director Dave Gilbert in the clubhouse after the match. Both teams enjoyed the afternoon, but there were a few sore legs the next morning at work!
