Helston Garages Group employs around 800 people across the South

Staff
Training and Development
We
have a number of specific schemes and programmes in place to ensure
this on-going commitment to staff training and development. These
include:

Internal Vacancies. All vacancies are advertised internally
first to give existing staff the opportunity for career progression.

Performance Development Meetings.
These annual meetings give staff the opportunity to discuss their
performance as well as their development with their manager.

Management Development Programme. This is a training
programme for employees who have been recognised by their managers
to have future management potential.

Apprentice Reward Scheme. A bonus payment is made to
all aftersales apprentices who successfully complete their apprenticeship
and remain with us for a period of time.

Sales Apprentices. We run a programme of training for
sales apprentices around the Group.

Long Service Recognition. To recognise and reward long
service we make a series of bonus payments.
Over
20% of our staff have worked for the company for more than 10 years.
Of these, over 50 staff will have been with us for over 20 years
- figures we are very proud of!
Career
Progression
There are numerous examples in the Group of career progression. Here are
just a couple of the many people who have grown with the company.

Kevin
Turner
Dealer Principal, Porsche Centre Exeter
Kevin
started his career with the company back in 1997 as a technician
at Carrs of Truro. He rapidly progressed to workshop manager
before being offered the job as Aftersales Manager at our
Porsche dealership in Exeter. When we opened our new Jaguar
dealership in Taunton in October 2004, Kevin was ready to
take on the challenge. In 2006 Taunton Jaguar was ranked No.1
in the country for its sales performance and No.1 in the region
for aftersales.
Just
10 years after joining the company Kevin has now been appointed
Dealer Principal of our Porsche Centre in Exeter. |

Tony
Pearson
Sales Manager, Matford Land Rover
Tony
joined the Group in 1993 straight from school as a trainee
parts person with Matford Land Rover. He quickly became a
valued member of the parts department. Tony's talents were
recognised by his managers and he was encouraged to spend
some time in the sales department. Tony has never looked back
and is now one of the top performing sales executives in the
Group. In January 2010 Tony was appointed Sales Manager at Matford. |

There
is no substitute for the company strength and quality of service that comes from a family business and loyal, long-serving staff. To illustrate the point, 15 of the current dealership general managers joined the Group in a more junior position and many, many more members of staff have increased responsibility |
Apprentices
Our
continued drive to promote people within the company starts at the
very beginning with our apprentices. We are fully committed to employing
apprentice technicians at all of our sites and take on over 30 apprentices
each year into the Group. We also employ an increasing number of
apprentices in our parts departments as well as in our three body
shops. We have also recently taken on a handful of sales apprentices
all of whom are now well underway to becoming fully fledged sales
executives.
